Kitsap Literacy Council's Spelling Bee

Soroptimist “Bees” Bring Home Another Trophy - May 2011
For the second year in a row, the women of the North Kitsap Soroptimist Chapter came home from the Kitsap Literacy Council’s corporate spelling bee with a fabulous trophy. This year’s team of Michelle Oss-Payne, Kris Avery, Barbara Hartley and alternate Dana Abney, placed second just behind the Silverdale Rotary Club. In addition, our team won first place for “best audience participation” and took a clean sweep of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the audience spell-off. Costumes, Banners, Noise Makers, Cheers, Prizes -- a hilarious time was had by all, and the event earned much-appreciated money for the Kitsap Literacy Council’s adult literacy program. A big thank you to our spellers and to all who showed up to support them!

2008 Service Organization of the Year!

It was a great honor to be recognized as the Service Organization of the Year by the Greater Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce. Members who were able to attend the gala awards banquet are pictured left.

Soroptimists are women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups. Members represent a wide array of professions, including doctors, attorneys, teachers, chief executive officers, business owners and government officials.

Soroptimists, who are leaders in their communities, believe that by joining with other women they can make the world a better place. Membership provides a number of material and intangible benefits for women wishing to use their time and talents in the service of their communities.
